A must for any fan of The Legend of Korra

If you are a fan of The Legend of Korra, this collection of posters is a must for anyone who is a fan of our girl from the Southern Water tribe, you won't be disappointed.

The book is well printed on thick stock paper, and the artwork is printed individually/one side only, so you will not have to choose which side of the art to display, and features concept art from all four books as well as ancillary media used to promote the show.

For example, if you were unable to attend any of the large comic conventions such as the New York ComicCon, or the queen mother, San Diego ComiCon, there are a few reproductions of posters from those venues- NYCC, featured on the cover of the poster book itself, as well as the poster from book three featuring the Red Lotus characters, the Avatar, and two of the new airbenders from Earth Kingdom, and there is even a print of the first poster Nickelodeon issued in 2012 before the show even aired featuring Korra looking over her adopted home, Republic City.

There are a few prints in the book that aren't so spectacular, but that is just my taste, as I wanted to see more characters in print, rather than a large background painting of the banyan grove tree standing proudly of the swamp, or wide shots of Zaofu. I wish that the book included the poster "New Friends" that featured the new Team Avatar, or Hiroshi Sato's photo of he posed with his wife Yasuko, and daughter Asami when they were a whole family untouched by a horrid act of violence.

Hopefully, the lack of this artwork only means that we will be treated to the opportunity to purchase a second, or perhaps even third collection of Legend Of Korra art, but for now the lack of those images are made up for by the presence of two extremely rare, and special works, Korra's spirit parade, which was a limited edition print limited to only a few hundred copies, and the rendering of the post series image painted by Brian Konietzko, which the fandom has dubbed "Turtleduck Date Night" featuring the endgame romantic pairing, which was also a limited edition offering.

I can't say that I absolutely love each inclusion in the book, Meelo's self-portrait for example, but the book isn't meant to cater to everyone's tastes, but to serve as a sampler for everyone to have an opportunity to enjoy a quality image of material that they may not be able to find because it wasn't issued for widespread ownership, or acquire the originals of, because of the ballooning collector's market for this show's memorabilia.

In short, this is a high quality collection of artwork from this show that everyone who is a fan, will be able to draw some enjoyment from in one form or another.

I bought two of them, and I believe I might have to purchase another, y'know, just to be safe.

BEAUTIFUL!! The art and the pages it's printed on are just gorgeous and high quality. The other wonderful thing is that the pages aren't double sided like most poster books! Couldn't be happier :)

Absolutely stunning. The artwork is amazing, and I love that it has Meelo's self portrait from season 4. And the Date Night picture! I'm seriously going to rip half of these out to be framed. Korra art on every wall!

For seven years she lived under the assumed name of Alexandra Costa until the publicized return of defector Vitaly Yurchenko prompted her to talk about the way defectors are treated by the CIA. She writes candidly about the reasons for her defection, her previous life in the Soviet Union and at the embassy, and her struggles as a single parent attending an American business school and then starting her own business. Her story should be taught in American schools. Perhaps then our young people would have a better appreciation for their liberty and not take freedom for granted. What a courageous woman!.

Enlightening

I read this book ages ago and wondered how people in the U. S. S. R. could stand living in the kind of deprivation that they suffered. Mrs. Costa shows us how: they lived in ignorance of how we in America were living, even 40 years ago. They did realize that color played a more important role in our lives in the 60's since they would cherish those old plastic Comet containers as pretty objets d'art to decorate their homes - if they could get one on the black market. I found a copy I had recently and noticed how many of the things Mrs. Costa describes about Russian life then are happening in America today, so I sent one to my uncle so we could watch together as our country changes to a mirror image of deprivation under sincere lies and heavier tax burdens and less freedom. For example: When Mrs. Costa got her new Buick over here from the Russian Embassy, she mistakenly got on the wrong freeway and headed out of D. C. The freeway had no exits for about 35 miles, so she was desperate to get off of it and slowed almost to a stop. A trooper came to her rescue, and she sobbed out her story, begging him not to take her to prison for being so far away from her residence. He asked her if she was a Russian citizen. Yes. Well, this is America, and if you have the money and time, you can drive all the way to California, and no one is going to take you to prison. I keep wondering just how long that will be true. Every one who loves driving, saving money, shopping, variety in life, the right to run your own life should read this book just to see if socialism/communism is really what we want here. We've NEVER been under the tyranny of a monarchy, oligarchy, etc. Could we the people endure that?

The vast majority of Soviet defectors were men. If women were involved, they were most likely the wives of the defectors. And not only were the defectors mainly men. They were also nearly always KGB or GRU (military intelligence) spies. Elena Alexandra Costa (aka. Yelena Mitrokhina) was therefore a rare kind of defector indeed. She was not a spy and nor was she a soldier. She worked in the area of publishing and copyrights, one of the Soviets' few truly legitimate commercial activities in the West. Long accustomed to the primitive living conditions endured by most Russians during the communist era -- food shortages, interminable lineups, cramped living space -- she was unprepared for the material wealth and open friendliness that she found in Washington. It was not long before she could see the greater opportunities that life in America would offer her two pre-school children. She eloquently describes her turmoil as she weighs the risks and advantages to defecting. Perhaps the most wrenching part of her story comes after she defects. She is nearly overwhelmed by culture shock and sense of isolation. She begins to understand why fully half of those who defected ended up returning to the Soviet Union within a short period of time. She also sees that she is not completely trusted by the American authorities, that like so many other would-be defectors , she might turn out to be a double agent. The book beautifully describes her astounding journey from Soviet student and philologist, to Soviet copyright representative, to defector and finally to successful Wharton MBA graduate and computer consultant, all accomplished while raising two small children singlehandedly. Alexandra Costa has given us a rare and invaluable account of a courageous woman's harrowing transition literally from one world into another.

About the Author
Roman Shaposhnik is a vice-president and one of the lead developers of Apache Bigtop, a 100% open source and community-driven big data management distribution built on top of Apache Hadoop. He has been working on making Hadoop ecosystem components more accessible and easier to use, and he has contributed to a wide array of Apache projects from Avro to Zookeeper. In addition to his day job building Data Fabric APIs at Pivotal Inc., Roman currently serves as a vice-president of Apache Incubator, helping exciting and new open source projects join the Apache family.

Many example problems and solutions make this a great learning tool from start to end

If you have used (or attempted to use) Giraph you will know that it's not the easiest system to pick up and start getting your hands dirty. However, it is an extremely powerful tool that can be used to solve many interesting problems at scale. This book does a great job of taking you from the very beginning with simple, straightforward algorithms to more complex real-world applications and finally more advanced topics (e.g., data partitioning, out-of-core algorithms, running on the cloud, etc.). With this book you can start without knowing anything about Giraph or distributed graph processing systems in general (or even about graphs!) and learn how to solve many graph problems at scale.

There are several things that I find so appealing about this book. The main things are: (1) the _numerous_ examples with step-by-step illustrations that help you understand what exactly is happening during an algorithm, (2) the fact that the example applications are motivated by real-world problems (e.g., recommendation systems, pagerank, etc.) whose solutions can then serve as a building block for your personal applications, and (3) the example code that will allow you to quickly get your hands dirty and start playing with the tool.
