When the ninja-bread man comes to a dead end at a riverbank, he finds a tired old cat who is willing to bring him across the river. Of course, one has to wonder if this cat is as old and tired as he lets on. In the end, the one with the most tricks up his sleeve wins the day.

All of the ninja tools in this story are based on actual ninja tools, but are made out of candy, spices or gingerbread. There is an informational section at the end which provides some background information on the characters and tools in the story.

The Basics of IT Audit: Purposes, Processes, and Practical Information by Stephen Gantz is the latest in "The Basics of" series by Syngress.

It is intended to "provide you with a thorough, yet concise overview of IT auditing. Packed with specific examples, this book gives insight into the auditing process and explains regulations and standards such as the ISO-27000, series program, CoBIT, ITIL, Sarbanes-Oxley, and HIPPA."

At 270 pages it is one of the longer books in this series and like the others, is intended to provide a high level overview of the subject matter. It begins by explaining the reasoning behind auditing and quickly moves into the different roles and responsibilities that one can expect during an audit engagement. The book dedicates separate chapters for internal and external audit as well a chapter explaining the different types of audits.

It goes on to spend several chapters breaking down the components and life cycle of an audit before delving into the different methodologies and frameworks available (NIST, ISO/IEC, COBIT, etc.). The book ends by providing an overview of Audit-Related Organizations, Standards, and Certifications.

All-in-all The Basics of IT Audit is a good primer for anyone just getting started in IT Audit or students pursuing a degree in IT Assurance. The book also does a great job demystifying the audit process and is recommended for anyone in IT who may be involved in their company's audit process.

About the Author
Roselyn Teukolsky has an M.S. degree from Cornell University and was a math and computer science teacher at Ithaca High School in Ithaca, New York for more than 30 years. She has taught physics, chemistry, biology, ecology, and oceanography. She has published articles in The Mathematics Teacher and in the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics Yearbook. She is the author of Barron’s AP Computer Science review book and coauthor of Barron’s SAT 2400: Aiming for the Perfect Score. She has received the Edyth May Sliffe Award for Distinguished Mathematics Teaching and the Alfred Kalfus Distinguished Coach Award from the New York State Math League (NYSML).

Poor Practice Tests

This book is good for studying for the AP test but I am very disappointed with the practice tests. The online test is old and uses the outdated Grid World. It is impossible to grade the Free-Response section. You can't get an idea on how you're doing. They give an example of the code but everyone codes differently. They don't provide the grading criteria for the Free Response questions as the College Board does for their practice tests.

It seems like a good start for a self-learner in high school.

I haven't started using it yet, but I only skimmed through it and I think it's beginner-friendly for a self-learner like me. There may be a few things that could need a little more explanation in the first chapter, but since I know a little about programming in general I sort of figured out what they were talking about. I'm happy to know that this is the most recent version of the book and I'm trying to aim for the test next year even though I'll be a senior. I got it on the earliest expected date too. The definitions could be a little more in depth but I know it's really a supplement for a real AP Computer Science class. If you want to study it yourself when your school doesn't offer it, I would recommend this book as long as you have some basic understanding of programming. I didn't even dare to attempt the diagnostics test in the beginning because I have no clue how Java works since it's a little different from C++, which I'm a little more comfortable with. (I'm not fluent in any language and I'm a high school junior.) Make sure to get other supplements if you're an independent learner. Still, I would recommend it to any inspired high schooler who wants to earn a career related to software design and computers. Keep fighting for your dreams no matter where life takes you and good luck!

The book is an easy read, straight to the point, and provides a thorough and in in depth review enough to cover the nephrology board material. Since I started using the book, it also really improved my clinical performance reflected on inpatient consults and outpatient clinic. All complicated cases I have encountered, had an answer and explanation in the book which made me a better nephrologist. The book provides enough pathophysiology making clinical relevance more understandable, minimizing memorizing concepts. I recommend this excellent book to every nephrology fellow, and nephrologist as well.

I just bought the book a week or so ago but found it a very helpful and an updated review.. I have no doubt that it is an essential time saving tool for every `learning or practicing nephrologist: Both Juniors and Seniors..

A Powerful Meditation

Wars are fought twice over -- once on the battlefield and once in our memory -- and that is the subject of Viet Thanh Nguyen's profound and challenging but hugely readable new book.

In the end, Nothing Ever Dies is a powerful meditation. It is a book to be read in small sips and not big gulps. It is worthwhile alone for revealing the intellectual roots of Nguyen's The Sympathizer, but even more so for confirming in compelling and passionate terms how we choose to remember and how we choose to forget, most notably that America is indeed fighting a forever War.

One of the best books I've ever read. A new perspective of the South Vietnamese people who's country is no longer. Beautifully written. Funny & ironic.

A good one here

A few of the early chapters are a little dry and theory-heavy. When Nguyen gets into analysis of the cultural artifacts of Vietnam and its war, it's a great book. You can see the influences that made "The Sympathizer" such a great book.
